ok i know this may seem ridiculous, but i've bought a new bike. as you may or may not know our leases on our cars are up soon and i've decided not to get another car. instead we're going to get just one car and i'll commute by bike. so... i needed/wanted a bike to use all winter and not have to worry about something happening to it. the bike that i've bought can be compared to a tank. it's made out of steel (who cares about weight when you're riding through snow???), has disc brakes (snow and ice build up on cantilever brakes = no stoppy), 29 inch tires that will be studded tires as soon as we get our first snow and only a single speed (snow and ice don't like derailleurs either!).
I won't have it for a couple of weeks so i can't put up any pics till then. till then this pic will have to suffice. it's one that i found on the internet that is similar, but not exact.

yes... that's right... the bike is called Karate Monkey. that may be the coolest part about it. ;)
Not ridiculous...it is a disease.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me I know, I have a similar one.
I am pretty impressed about the commute through ice and snow part. I've been commuting all summer on my little mountain bike. I say that I will keep doing it and that cold and snow won't stop me....... but every year about mid October the bike just never seems to come out of the garage. I am interested in commute updates as your season changes. Good Luck!
