i'm a slacker and i know it

sorry it's been so long to post. i tell myself all the time that i am going to sit down and just write some of my thoughts just to get them out ... but, alas, it has been quite a while.

so... today was a pretty cool day. i got contacts again for the first time in a LONG time. i haven't had insurance in a long time and the insurance that i had at google SUCKED so i never went (i would have had to pay tons of money myself). so... i have new contacts in and forgot how nice it is to not have to push up my glasses every 3 minutes. i asked about the contacts that joe has (the ones that you sleep in and take out in the morning) and they would have cost me 1375$. so... i decided to pass. joe got super lucky and got into a group that was some of the first to ever try them out. he actually got paid 50$ and got the contacts for free for the first year. now... all he has to do is buy the new contacts. that costs 350$ year (about the same as normal contacts). it's so expensive because they have to keep trying over and over for 4 to 6 times to make sure that they have the exact right fit for your eye. they also have a limit of about -4 and +4. so... i am perfect with my -2.5.

i was surprised to find out that my eyes had actually gotten BETTER.

at university i have gotten to know a guy called Matt Jordan. at first we just bullshitted about school and whatnot. then one day i rode my bike to school and he and i started talking about biking. he mentioned in passing that he likes to race. i went home and googled him. turns out... he's one of the best riders in AK. nuts. he has won some really important races up here and placed in the top couple for all the important ones.

i've been thinking about getting a trainer for the winters since they are so long up here and so the other day i asked if he had an extra one laying around. he did, so today he brought it to class and he is lending it to me for a little bit. it would be cool to be able to stay in "biking" shape during the winter.

speaking of biking. joe starts his cross country trip on thursday. i'm totally jealous. more than anything, i'm jealous of the next month where he will be worry free, bullshit on the brain free and free of responsibilities. not that i shy away from responsibility, because that isn't what i'm talking about. it is just really nice to be able to think about higher level stuff than what bills are due and what homework i have to finish and so on. when you're traveling you have a freedom in your brain that allows you to think about things that your brain CAN'T think about when it's consumed with so much other crap. when i was traveling for 3 months i thought about way deeper stuff than i think about now even though i'm 10 years older. oh well.
